My Why -- Why I Do What I Do

I want to share with you why I do what I do. Just to start off, I didn’t immediately jump into boudoir or fine art photography when I first started shooting. In fact, I didn’t even know what boudoir was. My start was in fashion and portrait photography which I still love dearly and I believe the techniques I have learned are still the foundation of my boudoir work. Over the years, I dabbled a little here and there in boudoir but it really wasn’t until I moved to Las Vegas that boudoir and the concept of intimate portraiture really clicked with me!

Putting it all into words, the WHY, is hard. The more I have shot boudoir, the more I came to realize that it is such a rush for me to show someone that they are beautiful and sexy! It’s more than just creating a photo. It’s about changing perspectives and mindsets. It’s about self-acceptance. It’s about creating art. Men, women, and couples that I work with are all part of an experience that is powerful and moving for them as well as for myself. To walk with someone into a place of vulnerability and show them how freeing embracing that vulnerability can be and pointing them to the empowerment with their own bodies and sexuality is exhilarating.

So many people in our society seem scared of sexuality and the beauty of the human form. I say it’s time to view everyBODY as beautiful and sexy. Men and women both should be allowed to express themselves without being made to feel ashamed of their sexuality or of their body.  We were created to be sexual beings. When we step away from the shame or objectification that our society connects to our bodies and our sexuality, then both women and men can be empowered and feel beautiful and sexy for their own damn selves. I believe that beauty is not limited to our physical characteristics; genuine beauty can be found inside. Beauty and sexiness are subjective, and sexuality is normal. My goal with boudoir and intimate portraits is to work with men, women, and couples on a intimate level to create images that capture what makes them uniquely beautiful. I highlight their best features and give them a platform by which to express and own their sexuality and help them exert a sense of confidence in their body and in their sexuality.

I want my clients to feel sexy and for them to see that they are beautiful men and women. Not all of them feel this way when they contact me. Some do connect with me saying they want sexy pictures but they just don’t feel sexy. I assure them that we can create intimate boudoir images that are suggestive and seductive that they will love. When working with clients, I have great respect for the individual boundaries and comfort level of each client. Now, I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t encourage clients to push their comfort level because I sure do! For some, all they need is some acceptance and encouragement to get comfortable. After all, most, but not all, of my clients aren’t typically walking around nude or in lingerie in front of someone they hardly know. Shooting boudoir allows me to help my clients see their inner beauty for themselves and to bring that to the surface. Once a client realizes how amazing they are on camera, the self confidence floods in! My work never had this kind of purpose before I began shooting boudoir.

Seeing clients leave a session with a new found belief in how good they look and how sexy they are is great. I can hear the confidence in their voice. When they see their images for the first time, there is another bit of the transformation in which many of them exclaim, “Oh my gosh! I can’t believe that’s ME!”. I have clients claim that they just aren’t sexy. They say they are goofy or self conscious. I let them see that those things and more are all sexy in their own way. I help them find what is sexy for them and for many of them, it may be for the first time ever. Often after a shoot gets rolling and I show my client some of the images we are creating on the back of the camera, their confidence level is boosted and before long, we are working the session like a PRO with a new found confidence and sexiness! I love that moment so  much!

Is my work body positive, yes. I truly believe there is beauty in everyBODY. But also, I want my clients to see the sexiness in their session so I would also say that my work is also sex positive. A level of connectedness exists between my client and the camera that rises above body positivity and into acceptance of their own sexualness. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to see their beauty and love themselves and to love their body exactly the way it is. I want my clients to be open to a cathartic experience that can change their lives. In sessions, I’ve seen tears of pain and tears of joy. I’ve had people explore things they had never explored before. I’ve had clients come in uncomfortable in their own skin and leave loving themselves again.  By the end of our sessions, clients often are laughing and enjoying themselves and more importantly enjoying the kick ass session we are creating.

So, there's no time like the present to give yourself a confidence boost and reveal your inner beauty. Give me a call today! The only question you'll be asking yourself when it's all said and done is, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"
